Celica has evolved as a sports car over the generations. It was exclusive to the Toyota Store in Japan where various dealer chains were handling different models. Celica filled up for Toyota Sports 800 during 1965 to '69. Toyota Corolla Store locations were earlier called ‘Toyota Public Store' which was renamed as Toyota Corolla Store in the year 1966. In Japan, the starting trim levels which were offered were LT, ST, ET, and GT. GTV got added in the year 1972. Celica was offered in 3 different levels of trim for the export markets: GT, ST, and LT.
At the time of its introduction, Toyota Celica ST was only available as a pillar-less hard-top notchback coupe with the coke bottle styling. SV1 liftback was advertised as a concept car at the Tokyo Motor show in the year 1971. With little changes, this was introduced in April 1973 in Japan as the 2 liter RA25 and 1.6 L TA 27 liftbacks. After this, it was exported to Europe in the form of RHD as a 1.6-liter lift back. After the facelift of October 1975, it was available in both LDH as well as RHD forms in all the other markets. At the 1971 Tokyo motor show, RV 1 wagon was also presented, but it didn't reach the production.
